How is Sentry integrated with Blue Iris?
The Blue Iris app leverages the Sentry API to get and receive the processed image results much faster. Enabling the functionality is just a mouse-click on a checkbox. No setup required. All alerts are sent via the Blue Iris communication channels: mobile app, desktop or browser. Email communication is for general users with or without Blue Iris.
How does Sentry process the images?
The images will be sent by Blue Iris to our cloud servers for processing. This is mainly because our AI requires a GPU to process the images quickly to ensure we send a response to you as fast as we can. In future, we will provide a Blue Iris plugin that is optimized to run on a general PC with CPU that will provide such an assessment locally.
How does Sentry reduce the false alerts?
we provide additional logic which suppresses frames for a better user experience. We skip alerts when we recognize an "event" has already been detected and alerted upon. For example, if the kids are playing in the backyard, the backyard camera will send an alert the first time the activity is detected. However, if the kids are playing for 30 minutes, you will not receive alerts for the next 30 minutes while the kids continue to play. The software is smart enough to know it is the same "event".
How accurate is Sentry Smart Alert?
We continuously train the computer vision model to get smarter. Regarding false negatives, i.e. humans were in the scene but not detected, our testing shows a 95%+ accuracy rate, i.e. we almost always detect humans when they are visible somewhere in the camera. This includes images with partial views of a human, body parts as well as images where the person is not even facing the camera, e.g. walking away as shown in other sample videos on the website.
As we move into processing video streams instead of single frames, the probability of missing people further reduces.
How soon can I get alerts?
We are getting 3 sec response when no one is identified and up to 6 sec round trip response time when people are identified. Variables like internet connection speed can improve or affect performance. Working on an on premise solution.
What type of alert will I get?
With the Blue Iris integration, you will receive alerts through the Blue Iris alerting system - mobile app, website or desktop server, you will not receive text alerts.
